AWS builds wind farm in Sweden

Amazon Web Services has chosen to establish a wind farm in Sweden as part of their project to source renewable energy for their complete global infrastructure. AWS are committed that the data centers that are currently placed in Sweden will run on 100% renewable power. The wind farm is planned to be taken into use by 2020 and it will be placed in Bäckhammar, Värmland, Sweden. AWS states that they will consume 91MW of power from a new wind farm.

In addition to the Swedish wind farm, AWS are in the making of wind farms in both Ireland and the US as a part of the project which aims to generate over 229MW of power.

Buzzcloud gladly welcomes the initiative as an important milestone towards a new generation of data center powered renewably.
